“How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver.”

—Proverbs 16:16 (NKJV)

“All knowledge is precious whether or not it serves the slightest human use.”

—A.E. Houseman

This section personifies the term “work in progress”. It is intended to be a chronicle of my interests, curiosities, and pursuits as a craftsman. For the moment and the most part, it feels, is, and remains, very scattered and incomplete. As it fills in, I will impose more of a definite structure and shape it into a cohesive work with a good deal of continuity. My intention – though there is no timetable associated with this wish – is to shepherd this collection of essays and articles into a valued and valuable reference work. In the mean time, if my mind wanders, I’ll follow it.

My hope is that others wandering a similar path might find something of value in my experiences and reflections. Throughout my life, I have been blessed with the opportunity to study with a number of fantastically creative, skilled, and artistic individuals. They shared their knowledge unselfishly, patiently trying to impart something of their craft to an eager and hopelessly wide-eyed lad. I would be incredibly remiss and undeserving of their efforts if I did nothing to carry on that tradition.
